There is a lot of buzz about A Gentleman in Moscow, so I approached it with low expectation. I listened to the audio book, and was enchanted with the story.
In 1922, 33 year old Count Alexander Rostov, a Russian aristocrat, is sentenced to house arrest for the rest of his life. His home was a suite in the Metropol, a grand hotel across the street from the Kremlin. Rostov, must now live in an attic room while some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history are unfolding outside the hotel’s doors. He manages to lead a very fulfilling life from inside the walls of the hotel. It’s a story of friendship, love, bravery.
Read the book before it becomes a movie staring Kenneth Branagh.
