I have read this tragic love story at least six times. The play, music, and movies are all spectacular, but there is something magical about reading the book and being emerged into 1800’s Paris. For anyone traveling to Paris, be sure to visit Opera Granier where the story was to take place.
This is a story of a disfigured man (Erik) who lives in the tunnels beneath the beautiful Paris Opera House. His creative genius mixes with madness, and he is referred to by the theatre group as The Phantom. A beautiful, up and coming opera singer Christine has become his obsession. And he is the hidden angel grooming her the role of a lifetime. It’s a love story, filled with passion, violence and suspense: love is both destructive and redemptive.
